Application for Membership

Student membership fees are $30.00 (effective 1/1/97).  This national membership fee is assessed on a one-time basis to cover the entire duration of collegiate student affiliation with Gamma Iota Sigma.   It is highly recommended that, in addition to this one-time initiation fee, each local chapter should develop their own fee system (annual, quarter, or semester basis) to support their local activities.

After submitting completed Application Form, Typed Transmittal Form, and correct fee, to Grand Chapter, each new member will receive a certificate.  Please allow two weeks for delivery.  More Application Forms can be obtained from Grand Chapter at 2586 Oakstone Drive, Columbus, OH  43231-7628, call 614-891-4242 or e-mail gammagrand@aol.com.  Copies of the enclosed Transmittal Form can be used.

Please, NO PERSONAL CHECKS!  The Grand Chapter will accept only money orders or checks issued on the official local chapter checking account.

To avoid delays, please re-check each application to be sure it is filled out completely and legibly.  Please type or print all information.  Grand Chapter is entering this information into its national database, so it is imperative that all information is correct.  Also, please check typed names on Transmittal Form against names printed on membership forms.   Make sure each name is spelled correctly on both forms.  Any application received with areas left blank will be returned.  Any application received without the typed Transmittal Form will also be returned.

Academic Distinction Designation -- This designation may be awarded to collegiate members of Gamma Iota Sigma in good standing, at the discretion of the Chapter Advisor.  Eligibility criteria for the designation are to be determined by each individual Chapter.  Criteria must be submitted to the Grand Chapter for approval prior to awarding the designation.  The Grand Chapter requires that criteria be based solely upon academic performance and substantially in the study of insurance, risk management, and/or actuarial science.  The determination of a minimum grade point average will be at the discretion of the Chapter Advisor, subject to prior approval of the Grand Chapter.  The designation will be represented by a gold foil medallion to be affixed to the designee's Gamma Iota Sigma membership certificate.  The Grand Chapter will provide the medallion at cost.  The Grand Chapter is to be provided with the names of all award designees for database recording purposes.  Once approved, award criteria may not be amended without prior submission to and approval from the Grand Chapter.

National Honorary Member - Only the Grand Chapter can grant honorary membership in Gamma Iota Sigma.   The local Chapter may nominate a person for honorary status, and if approved, a special Honorary Member Certificate will be issued.  The nomination request, on a member application form noting "Honorary Member," should include a cover letter with rationale for the nominee meriting honorary status.  No fee is charged for a National Honorary Member.

Chapter Honorary Member – The local chapter may elect to make a person an Honorary Member of their chapter.  A special Honorary Member Certificate will be issued.  A $50 fee should be submitted with a regular member application form, designating “Honorary Member” across the top of the form.

Associate Member - The local chapter may want to confer Associate Member status on a local person.  A $30.00 fee should be submitted with a regular member application form, designating "Associate Member" across the top of the form.
