Installation Ceremony For Officers

(Introductory remarks . . .)

Some of you here tonight are longtime friends of Gamma Iota Sigma, while others are learning about the fraternity for the first time.  There are now 37 chapters of Gamma Iota Sigma nationwide from California to Connecticut and Michigan to Florida.  Most recently, the Grand Chapter has installed chapters at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, and we are still growing.

(A few comments about your chapter and why it plays a significant role in Gamma Iota Sigma, or perhaps the local business community.)

Tonight I have the honor of initiating next year's officers.  Would the newly elected officers please come forward as I call your names?

name - position held

name - position held etc.

As Gamma Iota Sigma expands, your role as officers becomes increasingly important.  Not only is the fraternity more visible, but its OFFICERS become more visible, and maintaining continuity becomes a key element of the chapter.

The effort you put forth as an officer will have a long-lasting effect on continuity.  Many of the programs and ideas you implement will affect future members (perhaps share an idea that was created and recently implemented).

One word of caution: Don’t make the mistake of taking your duties as an officer of Gamma Iota Sigma lightly.  You are representing the members of your chapter as an officer.   As such, you have a tremendous opportunity to prove yourself, and to have everyone's attention while you do so.

There are certain symbolism’s behind the meaning of Gamma Iota Sigma.   You have learned these in your initiation ceremonies, and they are represented here on the banner, which hangs against the head table.  You will see that the fraternity key is made up of four clasped hands.  This dates back to England and the early days of fire insurance, when the use of fireworks came into being.  Two of the oldest were the Hand-In-Hand Fire Insurance Society and the Friendly Insurance Society.   Thus, the creation of the symbol of the four clasped hands.

The badge of Gamma Iota Sigma is an inverted triangle.  The three rounded edges represent Knowledge, Friendship, and Integrity.  The four clasped hands mentioned earlier incorporate these three symbols and add another one, Fidelity, which is a continuing faithfulness to an obligation.

Tonight, as you accept your role as an officer of the __________________ Chapter for the ______________ school year, I ask that you keep these symbols of the fraternity in mind.  Fidelity plays a significant role for you as officers.

At this time I would like to read you the charge as Gamma Iota Sigma officers:

1.          Will you as Gamma Iota Sigma officers develop, maintain, and promote a professional image at all times when representing yourselves and the ____________________ Chapter?

If so, please answer "I WILL."

2.         Will you perform your duties to the best of your ability?

If so, please answer "I WILL."

3.         Above all else, will you keep in mind the meaning and symbolism behind Fidelity and Integrity in serving your members?

If so, please answer "I WILL."

You have now been sworn in as officers of the ______________________ Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma for the next year.  I ask that you maintain an awareness of the wants and needs of your members, consistent with the objectives of Gamma Iota Sigma, and strive to serve as a good example for all members to follow.   May you bring the ____________________ Chapter to new and greater heights.

I congratulate you as new officers!  You should be commended for your unselfish willingness to serve others.
